Alternative itineraries for trip

There are a few different possibilities for how to see the same places by taking different routes.

The first itinerary is an "out and back" trip, and is the original itinerary presented in April. After flying into Las Vegas, the itinerary travels through the main destinations to Moab, Utah, and returns to Las Vegas for travel back to Tampa. The advantages to this option are earlier non-stop flights from Tampa, and less expensive car rentals. Also, this itinerary includes two nights at Bryce Canyon. The disadvantages are that this includes 400 miles more of total driving, and thus more gas. There are more sleeping destinations at which to unload belongings, and there are only four nights at our nicest location, Rabbit Junction.

The second itinerary, "one way: option 1," flies into Salt Lake City, and travels through the main destinations, heading southwest, and returns to Tampa from Las Vegas. The advantages to this trip are shorter individual drives as well as 400 fewer total miles, two additional nights at Rabbit Junction, and fewer sleeping destinations where belongings must be unpacked or packed. Also, the Zion Narrows hike comes near the end of the trip, giving a week and a half extra for the snow melt to occur, making that hike more likely. The disadvantages are a more expensive car rental (one way rentals), no overnight stay at Bryce Canyon, and no morning direct flights from Tampa to Salt Lake City.

The third itinerary, "one way: option 2," is very similar to "one way: option 2," in that it is a one way trip from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. The trip, however, varies in that the two night stay at Bryce Canyon is scheduled, with two fewer nights at Rabbit Junction. The stay at Bryce Canyon is the biggest upside, while the negative is that this is the most expensive option, in that an extra two nights lodging at Rabbit Junction is considerably less expensive than two nights at Bryce Canyon.
